Description

This is a portrait of a friend. Tried to challenge myself with a different background. Also, kept it more painterly than usual.

This is the first time I have painted someone who is not Caucasian. It was fun!

Linking to PNG image of fullversion as JPEG was insanely pixelly for some reason. Any tips on that?

As usual, free-hand in Painter 8.
Thanks for looking!

Lisa

Superb. Only thing I would request is the light coming from the upper left corner be a tad more intense, just enough to lead the eye from there thru the composition with a slight value shift, breaking up the large negative space - just a TAD, tho...

Much fun to look at!

Ohh... Gorgeous! That skin tone is just so awesome! Rich of colors... Of any kind!
It's a pitty that the below part of the T-shirt doesn't look that realistic as the rest of the portrait.

It's very well done! The background is a little bit plain however.

That is really well done, not too fond of the b/g though.None of the surroundings seem very palpable...otherwise.^_^

Just model works fine (especially on the detail version) but all the empty room in the picture... the guy seems a bit lost in the pic. Not so good choise of composition.

Great work, he really looks realistic. I'd like to see a little more texture on his shirt, though (it looks too smooth.)

you are a remarkable portrait painter in that you seem to have a wonderful ability to capture the human essence in your models. i think that what bothers me a little in this one is that the perspective in the background seems off i.e. where the back wall and the floor meet. also the door opening seems a tad narrow. but the way you captured his spirit, beautiful.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I am going to re-do it another way and see what happens. You all have such great eyes and have been a great help.

Thanks, Lisa

You are very talented. You should draw more portraits of other peoples of color. You can do them justice.

Excellent work on the figure, both in construction and in color - not to mention that is has a powerfulfeeling going there. I DO have to agree though that the pesrpective on the other room is notoriously off; compare the vanishing point lines of the guy and the door with those of the bed, and besides I think that bed should be a bit more detailed, it`s not that far away. But first correct the perspective! :)

Very good, great detail and colour, and the expression is very natural. His arms are a bit mottled, though, and the lighting doesn't match the background, which seems flat and too dark. +6

You know, for such an amazing portrait artist you could have at least worked on the prespective of the background ;)
7/8 because that guy looks like I can touch him!
